Nummus 347–348 — Constantius II

Constantius II was a son of Constantine the Great and ruled for more than two decades during a period marked by both internal conflicts within the Constantinian dynasty and wars along the empire’s borders.

The reverse shows two Victoria figures facing each other, each holding a wreath and palm branch – traditional Roman symbols of victory that continued to be used on the small bronze coinage of the Christian emperors. The mintmark SMTSЄ identifies the coin as struck at Thessalonica, at the fifth officina of the mint.
